UPDATE Nov. 7, 4:40 p.m. PT: Signal contacted Mashableon Nov. 7 to clarify that an email message purportedly sent from the company about the outage was not a company statement. It appears someone pretended to represent Open Whisper Systems and sent fabricated information about the outage. We've removed the fake statement.
Open Whisper Systems only released information through a tweet. The tweet explained, “Signal is back after a brief service interruption. We appreciate your patience as we added more capacity to resolve connection errors.”
